FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FOR INJURED PARTIES
Who is Key Health and how can it help me?
Key Health is a medical lien funding company that assists injured parties by improving access to quality medical treatment for injuries resulting from an accident. If you do not have health insurance coverage but require medical services related to your accident, Key Health can help facilitate payment for requested services on a lien basis.
What is a Lien/Letter of Protection?
For those with limited or no health insurance who have been involved in an accident resulting in a personal injury lawsuit and requires medical care, medical providers use a Lien/Letter of Protection system. A Lien/Letter of Protection is a document signed by an injured patient and/or his or her attorney that assures the medical provider that payment will be made from a settlement of the lawsuit.
How does the program work?
Your treating physician or attorney will submit a request for funding through our Lien Solutions Program. When approved through the program, Key Health will agree to purchase the account from the provider. This relieves you of the immediate financial obligation related to this medical service. Key Health then works directly with your attorney to be paid for these services when your case settles.
Who do I contact once my case has been authorized by Key Health?
You can call Key Health at (877) 633-5436 about any questions you may have regarding any pending procedures or to utilize the Lien Solutions Program for any further care prescribed by your doctor. Your treating physicians can answer any medical-related questions about your treatment and your attorney can answer any legal questions regarding your case. Key Health does not determine medical or legal decisions.
Are there any co-pays or deposits at the time the medical services are rendered?
When a request is approved through the Lien Solutions Program, there are no co-pays, upfront deposits or recurring monthly interest charges.
Is there a limit to the type or amount of medical treatment that Key Health will fund?
Your treating physician determines the type and scope of medical services that are appropriate. Key Health evaluates whether it will purchase the account for the requested services based on the anticipated cost and will coordinate these requests with your attorney. There may be limitations on the total amount funded by Key Health. The ultimate amount of funding provided by Key Health is determined primarily based on the specifics of your case.
Are there monthly interest charges on services funded by Key Health?
Key Health does not assess recurring monthly interest or patient pre-payment deposits.
Can Key Health fund any of the outstanding medical bills I have already incurred?
If medical providers have already treated you with respect to injuries sustained in your accident, Key Health may be able to assist you through contacting these providers and explaining our Lien Solutions Program. Please contact us if you have bills from a surgeon, hospital, radiology/imaging center or physical therapy provider that you would like considered for funding.
Who is ultimately responsible for payment should my case not settle?
Ultimately, you are responsible for the medical bills regardless of the outcome of your case or the financial settlement.
